Many people do not realize the expense that goes into a wedding until they actually begin planning their own. Today, the average wedding typically costs well over $20,000. Every little detail that goes into a wedding costs money. Brides and grooms want to have their weddings be unique, but they do not want to do this at the cost of breaking the bank. There are many creative ways to save money on your wedding, while still standing out from the rest.
Many couples think that DIY (do it yourself) decorations for their wedding will be more cost effective; however this does not always stand true. Not only do DIY decorations tend to cause more stress, but they typically end up costing more than expected. Occasionally, DIY decorations may cost less than purchasing items on wedding craft websites, however, the best way to save money is to purchase second hand wedding decorations. There are many websites out there where past brides will sell centerpieces, decorations, dinnerware, draping and so much more for a fraction of the price. After purchasing and using the wedding decor, you can then turnaround and resell the items to recover some of your investment. Another way to save money on decorations is to decorate using votive candles. Votive candles are a beautiful, yet cheap way to make your wedding glow, literally.
Another big expense for weddings today is flowers. Whether it is the flowers for the centerpieces, bouquets or boutonnieres, they can be expensive. Therefore, finding a venue that includes the flower centerpieces is ideal. As for the bridesmaids’ bouquets, a creative way to save money is to use the bouquets as decoration. After the ceremony and the pictures are done, put them in vases on cocktail tables, surrounding the guest book or even on the gift table. This will eliminate having to buy other decorations for those areas, while reusing something that would otherwise just be left on the tables. As for boutonnieres, since flowers are expensive, try colored pocket squares instead. This will save costs, while still having your groomsmen stand out.
The last biggest expense for a wedding is the money spent for the guests that attend, such as the favors and entertainment. The favors are a little something for the guests to take home to remember the night by. These favors tend to be unique to the couple, but let’s be honest, many times it will just be thrown out by the guests once the night is over. Therefore, a unique way to save money on favors and give guests something useful is to do an end of the night station as guests leave. These end of the night stations, can be anything from candy to cheesesteaks. They provide a late night bite for your hungry guests and many times actually end up being cheaper than spending money on a DIY favor. As for guest entertainment, a trend today is having a photo booth at your event, which is really awesome. However, if you are not able to include a photo booth in your wedding budget, a creative way to still capture the night is to buy a Polaroid camera or disposable cameras. You can place these cameras around your wedding reception area so that guests can have fun with them and then you are able to create a photobook of those memories!
No matter what your budget is for your wedding, there are always creative ways to save some money. Many times these money saving ideas are what makes your wedding stand out from the rest. So don’t be afraid to stray away from those expensive ideas, because no matter what you choose to do, it will be perfectly you!
